ExperienceLearning Methodology Primer

ExperienceLearning™
Methodology Primer

The governing design architecture behind every ProventusHR programme. The authoritative reference for ExperienceLearning: its origin, four-phase model, evidence base, and why it produces more durable behaviour change than instruction.

Proprietary IP ProventusHR Kirkpatrick L3 and L4

ExperienceLearning is ProventusHR's proprietary leadership development methodology built on a single principle: participants encounter the leadership challenge in a structured experience before any explanation or framework is introduced. The insight that follows experience is owned by the participant. The insight that follows instruction belongs to the facilitator. Created by Rama Krishna. The governing design architecture for every ProventusHR programme. 9x Brandon Hall recognised.

The Governing Principle

Insight borrowed from a facilitator does not travel back to the workplace.
Insight produced by the participant's own encounter does.

Rama Krishna founded ProventusHR in 2015 after nearly three decades in corporate leadership, watching well-designed training programmes produce no sustained change in the people who attended them. The learning was absorbed. The behaviour did not shift.

The question that produced ExperienceLearning was not what shall we teach? It was what shall we make people experience? An insight that follows a leader's own encounter with a leadership challenge is owned by that leader. It is not a framework they received. It is a pattern they discovered. Owned insights change how leaders show up on Monday morning. Borrowed insights change how they describe themselves in performance reviews.

ExperienceLearning is the design specification for producing owned insight at scale, reliably, and with evidence of behavioural transfer at Kirkpatrick Level 3 and commercial outcomes at Level 4.

The Design Architecture

The Conventional Sequence vs ExperienceLearning

Conventional Sequence

01

Framework First

The concept arrives before any need for it exists. The participant is asked to accept, not discover.

02

Explanation

Facilitator explains. Participant listens. The insight belongs to the room, not the participant.

03

Application Exercise

Borrowed insight applied to a case study, not reality. Returns to baseline on Monday.

04

Hope It Transfers

No structured measurement. No commitment to specific behavioural change. No evidence standard.

ExperienceLearning Sequence

01

Immersion

The dilemma arrives first. The participant encounters the leadership challenge through a structured experience before any conceptual framing.

02

Reflection

Individual then group. The facilitator creates conditions for discovery. Does not deliver answers. The insight surfaces from the participant.

03

Application

The framework arrives to name what participants have already discovered. Owned, not borrowed. Lands at maximum receptivity.

04

Commitment

Specific. Observable. Manager-visible. Tracked at 90 days. Kirkpatrick Level 3 evidence standard on every engagement.

The Four-Phase Model

Immersion. Reflection. Application. Commitment.

01

Immersion

Create the experience first.

The participant is placed inside an experience before any conceptual content arrives. Simulation, film scene, outdoor challenge: the dilemma is real before the framework is named. The experience creates the need for the insight, so the insight arrives with maximum relevance.

02

Reflection

Structured debrief. Peer dialogue.

Individual reflection first, then small-group meaning-making, then plenary synthesis. The facilitator creates conditions for discovery, never gives the answer directly. The insight that surfaces belongs to the participant because it was produced by their own reasoning, not delivered to them.

03

Application

Framework arrives. Named, not taught.

The concept names what the participant has already encountered. A specific workplace experiment is then designed: real action, real context, real stakeholder. The participant applies something they already know to be true, not something they have been told to believe.

04

Commitment

Observable. Manager-visible. Evidenced.

Captured in a Self Impact Showcase, co-signed by the reporting manager, tracked at 90 days. Kirkpatrick Level 3 evidence on every engagement. The commitment is not aspirational. It is specific, observable, and measured.

Delivery Formats

Five Ways ExperienceLearning Is Applied

ExperienceLearning is the design logic behind every ProventusHR engagement, regardless of modality or duration.

REEL|Life

The film scene is the immersion. A curated scene creates the leadership dilemma before any framework is named. The debrief is the reflection phase. The framework arrives at maximum receptivity.

Floor Simulations

Physical environments where participants navigate constructed business pressure. Decisions made in real time, observed by the facilitation team, debriefed against specific behavioural patterns.

Explore ›

Computer Simulations

Digital platforms where teams navigate a constructed business world. Data-driven feedback on the systemic consequences of strategic choices. Available in-person and virtually.

LEAP Leadership Journeys

The flagship application of ExperienceLearning across five ARChitectures and nine months. Every module built around an immersion experience that precedes the framework.

Standalone Workshops

Every workshop begins with an experience, not a slide deck. The ExperienceLearning sequence governs the design of every standalone programme, from full-day labs to focused half-day interventions.

Executive Coaching

Between-session experiments produce the behavioural data the next session works from. The coaching conversation is the structured debrief of a real leadership encounter from the participant's own week.

ExperienceLearning Methodology

ExperienceLearning is ProventusHR's proprietary design methodology for leadership capability development. Participants encounter the leadership challenge in a structured experience before any explanation or framework is introduced. The insight that follows is owned by the participant, not delivered by the facilitator.

ExperienceLearning is a specific proprietary methodology with a defined four-phase architecture, a fixed evidence standard at Kirkpatrick Level 3 and above, and proprietary delivery formats including REEL|Life, Floor Simulations, and Computer Simulations. It is not a philosophy. It is a design specification with a measurable output standard.

Immersion, where the participant encounters the dilemma through structured experience; Reflection, structured debrief producing participant-owned insight; Application, the framework arrives to name what was already discovered; and Commitment, a specific observable behaviour shift tracked at 90 days.

Because ownership determines durability. Owned insights change how leaders show up on Monday morning. Borrowed insights change how they describe themselves in performance reviews. ExperienceLearning is designed to produce owned insight, not informed opinion.

At all four Kirkpatrick levels. Level 3: manager-signed Self Impact Showcases at 90 days. Level 4: manager-co-signed commercial outcomes. ProventusHR has submitted evidence at all four levels to nine Brandon Hall award panels since 2022.

Rama Krishna, Founder Director of ProventusHR, developed the methodology over nearly three decades in corporate leadership and a decade of programme delivery, grounded in his observation that insight produced by a participant's own encounter is the only insight that reliably changes behaviour.

REEL|Life cinematic reflection, Floor Simulations, Computer Simulations, outdoor experiential programmes, and structured coaching loops. Each format is selected based on what the specific leadership challenge requires.

Nine Brandon Hall HCM Excellence Awards from 2022 to 2025. 170:1 documented ROI from a flagship deployment. 9.41 participant NPS. 25,000+ leaders across 100+ organisations since 2015.
